On our trip to Croatia, we knew we definitely needed to do some of the national parks, Krka was one of them! I'd seen pictures online of these beautiful waterfalls (that you could actually go in!) and fell in loooOooOve. I was soo excited go and it definitely didn't disappoint. You walk through beautiful green areas, full of trees and blue waterfalls, there are dragonflies and butterflies and it feels like you're in a fairytale, its extremely pretty. The area of water that you can go in is gorgeous *however* we knew going into it that it was supposed to be quite cold and rocky...which, it was! So I'd love to say that we spent the entire day in this beautiful water however it was more of a 15 minute waist high dip with lots of ohs and ahs at how cold it was...
I would advise taking some sort of shoes for the water if you plan on going in, it wasn't terrible but it would make it a bit more comfortable. As the day got on it got busier and more people were in the water, we also went in May so I assume if you go in the warmer months it might not be as cold! Although once you got used to it it was ok. BUT ANYWAY! It really was beautiful.
We had such a nice day and the weather was amazing. If a little too hot to be walking around for us! (classic british weather moaners "its too hot"). I feel like they have a better food selection than Plitvice and they also had water fountains around the park which was much needed with all the walking and hot weather. However it isn't as big or as spectacular as Plitvice, but don't get me wrong, the views are amazing and its definitely worth a visit, it is v beautiful.
TOP TIPS -
GET TO THE PARK EARLY - thankfully we knew this before we went, its supposed to be really busy if you get there after 10ish, lots of ques to get into the park and you just don't want that! So take this into consideration when planning what bus to get (we had to be on a bus at 7am to get there for around half 9ish!)
BRING WATER/SNACKS - if you want to keep costs down, this is the best way to do it, pretty self explanatory but food is more expensive when bought actually in the park, that being said it wasn't too badly priced from what I saw, but best to bring your own! There is plenty of space to sit down and eat in the sun.
BRING A TOWEL/WATER SHOES/CHANGE OF CLOTHES - I say water shoes because I have NO idea what those kinds of shoes are even called but, you know the ones I mean right?! Almost like scuba shoes. As I said, its a bit rocky in the water and would just make things a bit easier. Also, a towel and change of clothes if you're going to be in the water, no one wants to sit on a coach back in a wet bikini!
PLAN YOUR JOURNEY BACK - unfortunately for us, we didn't do this very well and ended up actually getting a lift off a woman who worked there (!!) to Skradin (a nearby town we had got the bus to to get there). Thankfully the people of Croatia are v nice and this lovely woman helped us out a lot, as we were waiting an hour for a bus that never came and the people at the park didn't know much about times of busses etc!
BE AWARE OF THE TIME - again, this relates to bus times and things, the park is quite big, so if you're walking around taking your time and then realise the last bus is going to leave in 5 minutes, its not ideal! Make sure you have enough time to get back to the park entrance other wise, it aint good!
I hope this helped any of you wanting to go to Krka! I'll be doing another post on Plitvice National Park as well :)
