4 Days In Edinburgh - What to eat/Where to go

In October last year (hello VERY late post!) we took a trip to Edinburgh. I've already spoken about our stay at The Lane Hotel but wanted to share what we actually did there!

CAMERA OBSCURA - World Of Illusions

I didn't want to post too many pictures of this - part of the fun is going and seeing everything for yourself! You get amazing views of Edinburgh from the top of the building, then make your way down each floor of optical illusions and fun stuff.

PRICE: Adult - £15.50 (or if you have student id it's £13.50!)

EDINBURGH CASTLE

Probably the most common place to visit in Edinburgh - the castle! Yes, it is beautiful, has so much history, is HUGE (theres so much of it to see) and the views are pretty amazing...however, I don't think its something I would spend money on again, for me, its one of those "once you've seen it" places, you've seen it, you know? Maybe thats just me! Don't get me wrong, like I said its a beautiful place and it's v cool to learn about everything that happened there, if you're into history you will love it!

PRICE: Adult - £18.50

EDINBURGH ZOO

Again, another predictable tourist choice! Though it was a nice day out, I hadn't been to a zoo since I was like 5 so it was good. We mainly wanted to see the pandas which we eventually managed to see, but only because we went back a few hours later! You have to book in for slots to see them and they might not even come out during your time slot (which is what happened to us!) so if you're going mostly for that reason, just bare that in mind. Not much else to say really, if zoo's are your thing then this ones for you!

PRICE: Adult - £19.50

WHERE TO EAT

Yes, you heard it right, a restaurant that mainly serves MASH. YES. I was so happy when I discovered this place! It was so good, try the roasted crispy potato skins if you go, soooo nice! It was really cosy and pretty central as well, 10/10 would recommendddd!

LA FAVORITA

Of course, we had pizza when we were here (can't go a week without pizza ok thx). We found this amazing takeaway (that is also an actual restaurant in Edinburgh too!) and OMG it was amazing. We got a takeout and ate it in our hotel! Obviously, if you're not staying near the takeaway, try and get yourself to the actual restaurant!

MONTPELIERS

We came here for brunch and it was lovely! They also do lunch and dinner, I can imagine it being a really nice setting at night as well! But our breakfasts were great, & yes we did get pancakes to share as well!

Oh and if you want to make yourself known as a tourist, make sure you get yourself a bottle of irn-bru, does anyone scottish even drink these?! Haha!

I hope you enjoyed this mini guide and it gave you some ideas of where to go if you're planning a trip to Edinburgh soon!

I also made a little vlog of the trip too, you can see a lot more of the places I've talked about here!

Holiday Prep & New In

Hey all! I go on holiday to Croatia in a few days (EEEP!) so I've been getting everything ready for it as well as buying some new bits and bobs.

I decided to buy some false nails as mine are hideous at the moment and these ones are PINK HOLOGRAPHIC ermmmm hi, they are amazing! Only £2 from Primark & a quick fix for my short ass nails.

*hand luggage essentials* - passport & cute holder, offensive eye mask, vaseline & eyedrops (gota keep hydrated when flying!) cardholder with all the essential cards (boots advantage card to spend in the airport optional...) contact lenses, little notebook, tissues and my phone ofc!

I of course couldn't help myself from buying a few new makeup bits, I wanted some kind of BB cream to wear instead of foundation, as I don't really want to be wearing a full face of makeup every day but would like my skin to look even with a little big of coverage. Its my first time trying this Garnier one so I'll see how it goes! (It was also on offer at Boots so yay!). The Maybelline Fit Me concealer is my 3rd re purchase! I love it. I'd also heard good things about the Lash Sensational mascara so decided to give that a try! I also saw this L'Oreal face wash as it was on offer and tbh, just looked really pretty!

And last but not least, my favourite new lip prouct! NYX Soft Matt lip cream in Abu Dhabi. THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! I've been a fan of the soft matte lip creams for years now but never had any of their nude shades, and this is literally the perfect nude for me! Its not too brown, not too grey, not too pink and most importantly not too light, cuz no one wants 2007 concealer lips (anyone else go through that phase?!)

It's one of those colours you can throw on without thinking about, it goes with everything and is just the perfect every day colour, I love!!

So thats everything guys, I'm so excited to be going away soon! I should get back to packing and resisting buying last minute stuff off ASOS. Til' next time!

"New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down"

New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down - LCD Soundsystem perfectly managing to describe all the feels. Throwing it back to 2014 in NYC, one of my most favourite trips. I've been there twice, and both times I have never wanted to leave. I always thought that when I "grew up" (lol can someone tell me when you actually feel grown up plz?) I was going to live there, optimistic, I know, but I always thought, one day, even if its only for a few months, it will happen. But as I do "grow up" I feel like thats getting further and further away. You realise how much things actually cost and that it's not as easy as just deciding to get up and go!

Its one of those places I'd dreamt of going since forever, of course from seeing it in so many films and tv series etc, when I actually went, it didn't even look real! Just more like a film set, it was very odd. But as soon as I got there, it just felt magical. I know that sounds dead lame and everyone probably says that, but it really did. I genuinely left with a heavy heart, dreaming of the day I could go back. When I did a couple of years later, it was just as amazing as I'd remembered it. Don't get me wrong, I'm quite aware that its not always rainbows and sunshine and going on holiday is v different to actually living there. But I get that, and I'm ok with that!

We kind of split this trip in 2, we did a couple of days staying in Times Square and then the rest of the time in Brooklyn. We stayed in the most amazing aparthotel in Greenpoint called The Box House and oh my god, it was SO GOOD! Sure, staying in a hotel in Times Square is nice but, the rooms are tiny, over priced and once you've seen all the lights and screens in TS, you've seen it, yano? A few days there is more than enough. The Box House had so much character and made you feel like you were in your own little apartment, it was the best. We would usually get a taxi back at night and the view of the Manhattan skyline when you're driving over the bridge was literally the best thing ever.

We spent the week there and saw/did so much - we went to the High Line, Chelsea Market, strolled around Tribeca, had amazing food at the outdoor market Smorgasburg, sat on the steps of the MET (duh, you cannot come to NY and not pretend you're Blair Waldorf), explored Central Park, went out in the Meatpacking district, went to Brooklyn Arts & Fleas, saw Carrie Bradshaws house, shopped in SoHo, had cocktails in Williamsburg, went to Magnolia bakery, took a ferry across to Dumbo, went to Grand Central, ATE GOOD FOOD - the most important right? - and we even managed to be there the same time as F.R.I.E.N.D.S 20th anniversary where they had a pop up Central Perk and you got to see loads of stuff from the set (the Gellar cup, the Science Boy magazine :') and clothes they wore too!) as well as of course, the orange couch.

So for now, no NY trips booked and definitely no plan to move :') but a girl can dream ok?! I've been loving Tar Mar's blog & youtube where I've been getting my NYC fix recently, an irish blogger who moved there in the last year, she's lovely and I've been loving hearing about how she moved and how she's finding it there, as well has her being a mega babe with amazing style.
